A Pretty Penny - Screening
A charming little character piece played by Australia’s legendary character actor Max Cullen, A Pretty Penny looks at a lonely pensioner and his life on the periphery. When Roy meets up with an old friend Jack (Chris Haywood), viewers are treated to a delightful portrayal of two old men both surviving and remembering their past. When 68yo Roy forks out his life savings, there is clearly something serious going on late in his life.
The film was shot over a week in the towns of Cessnock and Kurri Kurri in April 07. It was shot on HDV by Roger Lanser with production design by Gabrielle O’Connor. A mostly Newcastle crew proved the Hunter’s convenience and independence as a film centre.
Edited on FCP by Paul Healy, onlined and graded by Gavin Banks, the sound was recorded and edited by Mel Stewart employing a sublime score by jazz composer Alister Spence. It was written and directed by Mark Shields who has been a huge supporter of Metro Screen for over 20 years, both working for and utilising Metro facilities on a number of projects.
The 17 minute film previews at The Royal Exchange Art Centre in Newcastle on the 9th December at 4pm.
