Hope Awards

Short Film Competition

The Hope Awards is designed to encourage the creation of short films demonstrating a clear message of hope for people with mental illness, their families and careers.

Successfully piloted in 2005/06, the Hope Awards competition was developed to increase awareness of mental illness, and contribute to a reduction in the associated stigma that often prevents people from seeking help.

For the 2007/08 Hope Awards competition, two winners and two runners-up in each of the categories of drama and documentary, will share a pool of $20,000 in prize money. Additionally, a Committee’s Choice award of $2,500 this year will allow the judges to recognise the efforts of an entrant who does not have experience in film-making yet still produces a compelling film.

The 2007/08 Hope Awards competition opens on Monday, 3rd December 2007 and closes on Friday, 28th March 2008. Entries will be judged in April by a Steering Committee of six national mental health organisations and a select panel of expert judges. Winners will be announced in July 2008. Contact the organisers on 02 9325 4444 for a copy of the DVD compilation of 2005/06 finalists.
