DISINFORMATION + Q&A with Co-creator host Richard Metzger
Popcorn Taxi

How far do you have to go to go too far on television? Disinformation found out when it got it’s own show on the UK’s Channel Four network. Hosted by director and co-creator Richard Metzger, Disinformation is what you get when “60 Minutes” reaches for the meth pipe, making “Jackass” look lame.

When you watch television, you get reality, or what major multi national corporations want you to accept as reality. Who ever controls what you see, controls what you think, that’s why its called ‘programming’. Host Richard Metzger wants you to think of Disinformation as ‘de-programming’. The show takes the viewer on a hilarious and often disturbing tour of underground culture in America today featuring a collection of weird and unusual segments, from fringe tech and freak science, to erotic time machines, radionics, urban Satanists and the violent hillbilly hijinks of the now legendary “Uncle Goddamn” videos.

After the first episode aired, Channel Four’s censors went into a panic, resulting in the network hacking out substantial chunks of Metzger’s counter-culture mind bomb. What did make it into people’s homes in the U.K. became an instant classic of the weird and unusual, and the series was a cult hit. The first season was bizarrely scheduled after Ally McBeal and surely messed with the heads of more than a few fans of that show. Eventually bought by the Sci-Fi Channel for the United States, it was considered too controversial and never went to air in U.S.

For the first (any maybe only) time in Australia, Popcorn Taxi presents a selection of some of the most bizarre and controversial segments from the show, followed by an audience.
