The Sydney Water Short Films ‘Earth Prize’ is designed to encourage creative film making that promotes appreciation of the natural environment. The theme is ‘Water For Life’ and we invite submissions of existing or new films and animations. Submissions will be shown on the ‘Earth Prize’ website where the public can vote for their favourites. The ten favourites will be screened at this years Earth Festival event to be held on Saturday 29th Nov 2008. The winner, as voted by the public will receive a $2,000 cash prize plus kit and studio hire courtesy of our sponsors valued at over $2,000.

We are looking for someone with editing aspirations to join our crew as an editing assistant in the office and video split operator in the field. Job involves knowledge of both Mac and PC, editing software and basic editing principles, and ability to do a physically tough day on set.

The Sydney segment of the internationally acclaimed 48 Hour Film Project will be run from 10-12 October where teams are challenged to make a movie—write, shoot and edit it—in just 48 hours. The 48HFP takes place annually in over 70 cities around the world with more than 40,000 filmmakers competing to win the title of Best 48 Hour Film of 2008. Films can be in any language. Each team receives a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue that they must work into their 3 – 7 minute film.

‘The Armidale International Film Festival’ will be held from 1st to 3rd August 2008- in Armidal, NSW. This year audiences will be captivated by highly acclaimed films from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In one single weekend you can enter the different cultures of Austria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, India, Israel, Italy, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan and Turkey/Germany. Unpaid Work

Our film revolves around the premise that, although at times we may feel isolated and alone, we are not. The audience follows a middle-aged woman into a suburban cafe, in which there are several groups of people. She is unhappy and considers her situation unique. We move from group to group, learning either through dialogue or voice over that at least one person in each group is in a similar predicament to our main character.
